Green Bay Packers PR icon Lee Remmel dies at age 9
icon Lee Remmel died on Thursday at the age of 90.Remmel was a member of the ' front office since 1974
Alex Burrows Jersey and led the franchise's public relations and publicity efforts until 2004, when he became Green Bay's team historian.Before joining the Green Bay's front office, Remmel was a sportswriter and columnist for the Green Bay Pre s-Gazette for nearly 30 years. He was the only sportswriter in Wisconsin to have covered the throughout all of the team's coaching regimes at that point.Remmel was also a member of the NFL public relations directors' Profe sional Football Writers of America liaison, statistics and NFL Films committees."He had a tremendous love for the organization, a tremendous love," said former CEO Bob Harlan. "Everyone had great respect for his ability as a writer, and certainly if you wanted a quick point in history, there was not a better source than Lee."A native of Shawano, Wisconsin, Remmel was voted Wisconsin "Sports Writer of the Year" in 1967. He was also a past president of the former Wisconsin Pro Football Writers' A sociation.Remmel was inducted into the on March 30, 1996 in recognition of his close a sociation with the organization that spanned more than a half-century. The also honored him in August 2003 by naming a pre s box at the redeveloped Lambeau Field "The Lee Remmel Pre s Box.""He had great humility," Harlan said. "He was always concerned with how it might reflect on the organization. I always had to a sure him, 'You're a legend around here Lee. The pre s box should be named after you, the dinner is a tremendous event, and you certainly deserve to be in the .'"In August 2008 Remmel and his wife, Noreen -- who pa sed away three years ago -- celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
